# Lookups

Search for an item by name, get its code, and pass that code into the search.

Rules: send q, at least 2 characters. At most 10 matches return. Rate limited to 120 calls per minute per key. Lists are not available. Never try to enumerate a lookup.

| Parameter | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| state | Yes | State key. |
| dim | Yes | The lookup type the search field uses (named on each search page). |
| q | Yes | The name or part of it, at least 2 characters. Alias: search. |
| parent | If the field has parents | Code chosen for the level above; ancestors also go under their own field names. |
| limit | No | Up to 10. |

Response: { "data": { "options": [ { "value", "label", "meta": { ...code fields } } ] } }. Copy the meta keys into params of the search.

Errors: 400 missing_parent, 404 unknown_dim, 429 rate_limited.
