Lookups

Search for an item by name, get its code, and pass that code into the search. That is all lookups do.

Rules

Send a query: q should be at least 2 characters, so the match is specific.
At most 10 matches come back. Type more of the name to narrow them.
Rate limited to 120 lookup calls per minute per key.

Resolve a name to a code

GET/api/v1/search/lookups

Parameter	Required	Description
`state`	Yes	State key, for example telangana.
`dim`	Yes	The lookup the search field uses. Each search page names it in its field table, for example `sro`.
`q`	Yes	The name, or part of it. Send at least 2 characters. Alias: search.
`parent`	When the field has parents	The code already chosen for the level above. A field that depends on others also takes each ancestor under its own field name, for example `district` then `mandal`.
`limit`	No	Up to 10. Lower is fine.

Pass the code into the search

Each option has value, label and meta. The meta keys are the code fields the search needs. Copy them into params:

Every search page shows its own Request parameters table, with the lookup each parameter comes from. We also check the codes on submit. A code that is not on the list is refused with 422 and the lookup that would have resolved it, before anything is charged.

Find a place by name

Some searches also offer a place finder that fills several levels at once, for example village, hobli, taluk and district from one name. It follows the same rules: a query is required.

Maharashtra land records: villages and wards only (since 13 Oct 2026)

The Maharashtra place lookups for 7/12, 8A, Property Card, the plot map, mutations and Index II by property (GET /api/v1/raw-search/lookups/maharashtra/{dim}?q= with location_bhulekh, location_bhulekh_rural, location_bhulekh_urban or location_igr) return villages, or city wards for a Property Card. They no longer return a district or taluka on its own, because none of these searches can run on one. Names match the usual English spelling as well as the land-records spelling (for example Wagholi finds Vagholi). The answer carries search_limit, and search_cut: true when more places match than were ranked: send more of the name.

Each search field that takes a code names its lookup type (dim). Types are listed here by state, with the searches and fields that use them. Names are what you search for. No list of values is available.
